MANILA, Philippines – Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company Afni Philippines (PHI), Inc. donated PHP250,000 to Taal volcano evacuees through Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Thursday, January 30.

Afni PHI Country Manager Ken Hahn turned over the donation to PRC Chairman and Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon during the handover ceremony in PRC’s headquarters at Mandaluyong, Metro Manila.

The donation, along with pledges made by Afni employees, was collected through AfniCARES, the company’s corporate social responsibility program.

In addition, Afni PHI employees donated, sorted, packed, and issued to PRC more than 100 bags of relief goods, which included ready-to-eat food, bottles of drinking water, clothes, and more.

“Our goal is to reach as many evacuees as possible and we realized that the best way to do it is to partner with the Philippine Red Cross,” Hahn said.

“Many affected families remain at evacuation centers as volcanic ash still blanket their homes,” said Afni Philippines Vice President for Operations Khalid Khursheed. “We want to help ensure there’s enough supplies for them as they try and survive the effects of this calamity,” he added.

Since the Taal Volcano’s disturbance early this month, PRC has mobilized an estimated 800 volunteers to assist affected communities in Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna.

“I’m happy to have Afni folks here,” Gordon said. “It’s a great time to provide corporate social responsibility, but more likely, it’s better to have corporate social duty.”

He added, “When a company is part of a community, it enhances that company’s image. It portrays the employees of a company as the ‘go-to-guys’ in their community.”

For Afni, the next step is to see how it can further help in future needs, including resettlement and rehabilitation.

“It’s going to take a lot of work and effort to help affected communities get back on their feet,” Hahn said. “We’re happy to increase our efforts and do more with Philippine Red Cross.”
